September, 2008

Sees the arrival of our first foals of the season, a chestnut filly out of Kirreway Beau by Sandbourne Royal Ensign.  This baby has exceeded all our expectations.  She is very delicate and refined and barely touches the ground as she travels.

County Cover Girl has foaled a very extreme chestnut colt with a white strip and front white stocking by Sandbourne Royal Ensign.  This is an exciting colt, destined to follow in the footsteps of his older siblings.

.

August, 2008

August sees the arrival of Kolbeach Magic to Penmain.  This beautiful mare is just a delight to own.  After 14 months in the paddock due to EI, Magic was quite happy to be going again under saddle.  Magic will be qualified here in Victoria and then head to Louise Barton in Queensland to be shown. She will return to Penmain as a brood mare after her showing career

Melbourne Summer Royal

Penmain Posh again exceeded our expectations.  Posh (Fernleigh Fine Print/Kirreway Rendezvous) took out the Supreme APSB Riding Pony Sash and then went on stand in the final 5 for the “Best in Show” award.  We are thrilled to have had a yearling in this lineup of supreme champions.  Posh will now be offered for sale as a top saddle prospect.

Over in New Zealand it was a thrill to go over and watch Penmain Lilly of the Valley (Fernleigh Fine Print/Sufton Wild Rose) take out the Reserve Champion Led Pony of the Year award.  This class is open age, open sex which meant that our little Lilly stood over some of New Zealand’s top ponies.  Lilly was also runner up Riding Pony Exhibit to the winner of the open class.  Lilly has had an amazing season for KS Showhorses in New Zealand, as has her Penmain stable mate Penmain All A Glitter who has dominated the coloured ring as a two year old this season.

Barastoc 2008

Our ponies PENMAIN POSH, PENMAIN PLAYBOY and LEANDA IN FAVOUR all attended Barastoc to compete in the Riding Pony Youngstock classes. This was my first Barastoc, having only competed in the past riding for others.  Our ponies excelled themselves.

PENMAIN POSH, prepared and exhibited by Robert Cockram and David Puttock, handed us our first ever ribbon at Barastoc and then continued on to be declared the Supreme Led Riding Pony Youngstock winner.

LEANDA IN FAVOUR was sashed Champion Riding Pony Show Hunter with his stable mate PENMAIN PLAYBOY winning the Reserve. LEANDA IN FAVOUR then went on to win the Grand Champion Led Showhunter in the Riding Pony Youngstock Ring.

PENMAIN POSH [pictured above] will now continue his preparation for the Melbourne Summer Horse Show.

Over in New Zealand the Penmain ponies have had some outstanding results.

PENMAIN LILLY OF THE VALLEY (Fernleigh Fine Print/Sufton Wild Rose) took at the Supreme Led Pony exhibit at the Masterton A & P Show, while PENMAIN ALL A GLITTER took out the Best Presented Exhibit of the Show at the East Coast In Hand Pony Show.

All our mares have now foaled with the exception of Kirreway Rendezvous who has slipped this year.

We are extremely pleased with our Sandbourne Royal Ensign stock, Sufton Wild Rose’s chestnut colt Charles [seen opposite] is really something special and he is to be retained by the stud at this stage as a potential future sire.

He is expected to mature up to 13.2.  Rosie is back in foal again to Sandbourne Royal Ensign for a November 2008 foal.

Kolbeach Catwalk’s (Syon Splendour/Tbred) bay foal [opposite] is superb and of extreme type, he is beautifully marked with a lovely turn of front, he is available at weaning.  This foal is definite colt material, but if gelded would make a top shelf show or dressage galloway as he is expected to mature up to 14.2hh  Catwalk will be put back in foal to Sandbourne Royal Ensign.

County Cover Girl (Keston Royal Occasion/Covers) and her colt foal, Darcy -left, (by Fernleigh Fine Print) are doing extremely well.

Darcy is simply stunning and has an unflappable temperament, the same as his mum, who is one of the favourites here at Penmain.  Darcy is full brother to Kolbeach Promise and Kolbeach Vogue and is expected to mature up to 14.2hh.  Darcy will be offered for sale at weaning to an approved home only.  Dale is now in foal to Sandbourne Royal Ensign for an October 2008 foal.

Kolbeach Sands (Fernleigh Fine Print/Braemar Seashells) has produced a lovely chestnut colt by Cherrington Damascus, to make 13.2hh pictures below.  The Fernleigh Fine Print “spunk” has bred on down the female line.  This baby will make a good saddle pony and is for sale, and available at weaning.

Braemar Seashells has also had a foal by Cherrington Damascus, a very dark chestnut filly with a small white star and sock to make 13hh.  As with all her foals, Molly is doing a great job raising this filly.  Molly is now in foal to Sandbourne Royal Ensign for a November 2008 foal.

Our Kirreway Easybeat [pictured below] mare is to put in foal to Sandbourne Royal Ensign and offered for sale in foal.

The Rose of Astral, owned by KS Showhorses in New Zealand is still with us, she has foaled a sweet chestnut colt foal [pictured right] by Syon Royal Portrait  and is back in foal to Sandbourne Royal Ensign.

With EI preventing the movement of horses into New Zealand for the foreseeable future I guess Rose and her foal James will be calling Penmain home for a little while longer.

We have lots of news!

Sufton Wild Roses beautiful colt seems to get prettier and prettier each day, these photos were taken 10/11/07

Penmain All A Glitter was supreme coloured pony this weekend in New Zealand at the Manawatu A&P Show

Braemar Seashells has foaled a rather large chestnut/pally filly with a white sock and small star, the filly is by Cherrington Demascus and is expected to mature around 13.1hh, this filly is half sister to Penmain All A Glitter.

Kolbeach Catwalk has foaled early, a very tall, very leggy dark brown colt with two white socks and a perfect stripe down his face, this foal is expected to mature around 14.2hh.

Our three ridden ponies have all come in from a spell and are all going again under saddle.

See our for sale page for photos or email the stud for additional photos, all three horses are in work and in show condition with all eligible newcomer prospects.

29 October '07

Sufton Wild Rose (Sanbourne Royal Ensign) foaled this morning, a delightful chestnut colt with 4 white socks and a white stripe/blaze. The foal arrived in fantastic condition and looks like he might go up around 13.2hh.

Our two New Zealand exports have now commenced their showing career and have done the stud proud.

Penmain Lilly of the Valley, (Fernleigh Fine Print/Sufton Wild Rose) at her first show Hawkes Bay A & P won the led yearling pony class, stood Reserve Champion Youngstock and was the winner of the New Zealand Pony Breeders Youngstock Sash.

Lilly then went on to Wiakato and won the Best Presented class, won the Yearling Led class and went on to be declared the Youngstock Champion. Lilly also won the New Zealand Pony Breeders youngstock sash. She is seen opposite in her class.

Penmain All A Glitter was also shown at Waikato and won his Best Presented Coloured class, won the 2/3 year old Palomino class and stood Reserve Champion Palomino youngstock. He also won the 2 and 3 year old open led class and was Reserve Champion behind Lilly in the overall championship. Congratulations to KS Showhorses who have done a sensational job with these ponies.

We have decided to offer one of our brood mares for sale, Kirreway Easy-beat, click here for more details.

The first foal of the season has arrived at Penmain with County Cover Girl delivering us an absolute ripper bay colt with three white socks and a strip/blaze by Fernleigh Fine Print. This colt is huge and so cute with his dishy little white face, he should mature to 14.2hh. photo opposite at 8 days old

Sufton Wild Rose is the next mare due on the 1st of November. Its time to update a foaling calender, how we managed to have 4 foals due in 16 days is still being pondered over.

Cosmo (Leanda In Favour) pictured on the left, has returned to Penmain after being broken in, he is going so well and goes far better than his age suggests.  For more photos and details as Cosmo is offered for sale, see our sale page.

The Studs little Spider (Kolbeach Alert) is next cab off the rank to be broken in and he should return in the next 8 weeks or so.

The first of our own stock took to the show ring this weekend with absolutely stunning results. PENMAIN POSH (you either love the name (as I do) or hate it, attended his first show at Tatura on Sunday the 13th of May, 2007. Pictured right>

Superbly prepared and presented by Robert Cockram and David Puttock our little boy went on to be declared the Supreme champion foal of the show, a sensational moment for such a young stud. Thanks also go to David Ross at the Falconhurst Stud for having Arny for the last 6 weeks. By Fernleigh Fine Print and out of Kirreway Rendezvous, Arny behaved superbly and worked a treat indoors.

Final results were:

CHAMPION - Arabian Derivative foal.

CHAMPION - Part Welsh Colt Foal

SUPREME PART WELSH FOAL

GRAND CHAMPION WELSH EXHIBIT and winner of the WP&CS MEDAL

GRAND CHAMPION FOAL OF THE SHOW

PENMAIN PARLAY  The studs little Junior "Penmain Parlay" was shown at the Magic Breed Arabian Show on the 26th of May, 2007. Junior won the huge Arabian Riding Pony Colt or Gelding Class and then went on to stand reserve champion, a huge achievement for such a tiny little colt.
